WINDOWS AND DOORS Blast-enhanced bolted glazing
Solaglas now has blast-mitigation certification for the SPIDER GLASS articulated bolted glazing system and for the LITE-WALL bolted glazing system. Testing was carried out in March 2011 at the GL Spadeadam test facility, as part of a study of point glazed systems. Testing was in accordance with ISO 16933 ‘Glass in Building – Explosion resistant security glazing – Test and classification for arena air blast loading.’ ISO 16933 defines the glazing hazard ratings, ‘A’ to ‘F’, which are based on the level of glazing damage and the degree to which glazing fragments are dispersed inside the test cubicle. The Spider Glass single glazed MST bolt achieved a D rating. This means the glazing represents a very low hazard. The LITE-WALL ISO, double glazed LW 4000 bolt achieved a C rating – meaning it represents a minimal hazard in the event of a blast. Formore information telephone 024 7654 7400 or

Intelligent door systems
System20 – the latest automatic sliding door fromRecord (UK) – claims to be the first fullymodular door systemto offer interactive electronics and simply, user-friendly operation. The system’smodular construction allows designers to specify a wide variety of door configurations - including standard sliding, telescopic, curved and angular – without the high cost of a bespoke operating system. At the heart of System20 is Record’s proven RIC 290 sensor, which uses both radarmicrowaves and active infrared sensors to communicate pro-actively with the door control device. A remote control module is also available incorporating an easy-to-use graphic display,menu- led navigation and text in a choice of languages. The system’s opticalmodule uses twin infrared light curtains to automatically detect the approach of people and tomonitor the immediate door area to identify stationary objects. The sophisticated commissioning protocol permits the systemto ‘self-learn’ so that the operation is optimised and unnecessary opening is avoided. For more information telephone 01698 376 411 or email

Post-riot repairs
SOLAGLAS Installation, a division of specialist glazing company Solaglas, has reported a surge in business following the recent riots across the country. The commercial glazing supplier stated it had taken more than the equivalent of two weeks worth of new instructions in a 48-hour period. Darren Dickinson, Service Director at Solaglas Installation, says: “Being a 24/7 operation 365 days a year, we have the systems in place to cope with the surge in demand for events of this nature ensuring we support our customers in a very professional manner.” The company says that having robust IT systems played a major part in its ability to respond quickly and efficiently to their customers needs and deploy operatives via PDA’s to the worst effected areas as a priority. “By activating our procedures for this type of event, we gave each customer a bespoke update each day so they could see exactly where we were with each of their affected sites in relation to their portfolio of properties.” For more information visit
