HEATING AND VENTILATION Energy Box keeps rescue dogswarm

The UK's largest dog- care charity has chosen leading renewable heating company Organic Energy to provide a green energy system at its £5million centre in Shropshire. A wood pellet boiler has been installed at the Dogs Trust Shrewsbury as part of an innovative eco- building programme. Organic Energy has supplied an Energy Box for the site - a complete heating system delivered ready for installation that can be operational within hours. The Energy Box, which is lowered onto a concrete base, is a complete plant room pre- fabricated by Austria-based ÖkoFEN. The timber box houses a 56kw ÖkoFEN Pellematic wood pellet boiler as well as a fabric fuel store, flue and ash compression system. Andy Boroughs, managing director of Organic Energy, says the installation could also provide an income stream thanks to the Renewable Heat Incentive. Following the Shropshire project's completion, the target is to cut energy consumption to less than 150 kWh per square metre – 62 percent less than a conventional building. Fresh and quiet

In any large, busy building, noise transfer fromone area to another has always been a problem- but nomore, with a revolutionary yet simple product by Passivent, developed in associationwithArup. SoundScoop combines natural ventilationwith noise attenuation. It significantly reduces sound transmission fromone area to another, whilst enabling lowresistance airflow- essential in naturally ventilated buildings. This can help reduction in energy consumption as part of the continuing drive for zero carbon buildings, without compromising acoustic performance targets as described in British Standards and Building Bulletins. SoundScoop is positioned at high level in the partition/wall between two internal spaces, enabling natural airmovement withminimal pressure drop.Apatented sound absorbing lining optimises attenuation of mid frequency sound, typically themost problematic. Accredited laboratory testing has demonstrated that an acoustic performance of up toD44 can be realised. “The acoustic performance of SoundScoop means that the requirements of BB93 can bemet in a classroomadjacent to a noisy corridor,” explains PassiventMarketingManager SiobhanGadiot.
