HEATING AND VENTILATION An industry update

The way a building is heated and ventilated has a huge impact on the quality of the lives of the people living within, so is always a huge consideration. And as regulation in this sector continues to increase as we strive to ensure that buildings play their part in achieving national targets for carbon reduction, there’s even greater need to stay at the cutting edge of the technologies available. That’s why we’ve put together this insight into the products available in the marketplace right now. 

Hotwatermade AquaEasy

AquaEasy is an imaginative addition to the Alfa Laval range of DomesticHotWater systems designed for controllable, straightforward supply of hotwater in apartment blocks, hotels, schools, sports centres and similar buildings. Compact, simple, yet effective,AquaEasy provides up to 350kWof capacitywithin a slim, space- saving silhouette that allows it to be floor orwall-mounted or installed in a cupboard. AquaEasy can be connected to any kind of heating source on the primary side, whether conventional gas boiler,District Heating network or a renewable energy source such as solar panels or a heat pump. Ahigh efficiency CB60 copper-brazed heat exchanger transfers energy fromthe primary to the secondary side.Atwo or three port thermostatic valve combineswith a rapid response thermostat to provide quick and precise regulation of thewater temperature, while efficient insulationminimises heat loss.AquaEasy can also be equippedwith a secondary thermostat that acts as a fail-safe and stops the flowof the primary hotwater to the heat exchanger if it senses the temperature is too high. Collaboration sees NHS needsmet

Two air handling units supplied by FastlaneVentilation and two units by Elta Fans have been installed in a new dental facility atDunbarHospital in Thurso, Caithness in theNorthern Highlands of Scotland. The schemewas part of a £5.6million injection to improveNHS provision in Thurso. Fastlane Ventilation supplied oneDoubleDeck and one Side-By-Side ‘Nevada’ heat recovery unit. Elta Fans supplied two ‘Quietflow’ single fanswith silencers. Suitable for internal or externalmounting, theNevada range of direct drive heat recovery units provides a solution for applications, which require a small unit for lowair volumes. It boasts a comprehensive range of accessories includingmatching silencers and summer bypass dampers suitable formotorised operation. The Side by Side and DoubleDeck arrangements are the two standard versions and both incorporate forward curved single or double inlet centrifugal fans, plate-to-plate recuperator, electric or hot-water, heating coils and pleated panel filterswithin both air streams. The ‘A’ teamis ready for action

From January 1st 2013 the standalone circulator market in Europe will change forever. The EU Directive on energy using products (EuPs) sets strict new requirements for energy efficiency in domestic and light commercial circulator pumps. Grundfos are not just ready for this – they’re way ahead of the game. The Grundfos ALPHA2 and MAGNA circulators have met the EuP demanded requirements for many years. For example the ALPHA2 runs on as little as 5W, and in 2008 was the double winner of the Energy+ Award for

best energy-efficient circulator. And with more than one million units produced and sold since the market introduction in 2007, it has proved its reliability around the globe. The same can be said about the Grundfos MAGNA for commercial building applications that was introduced to the market in 2001. This reliable pump uses up to 70 percent less energy than other standard standalone circulators. So you don’t have to wait for legislation to come into force before you make the energy efficient choice, just opt for the Grundfos ‘A’ team today.
