Quick-thinking Michelle saves the day for cafe regular Levi

THE life of a Snodland man was saved when the owner of his favourite café realised somethingmust be wrong be- cause he had been missing for a few days. Levi Filmer (82), of Recre-

ation Avenue, went to the Pavilion Café in Snodland Cricket Meadow every day. Michelle Pearce said Levi

would telephone her if he was not going to call in the café. She thought he was going to his blind club on Monday and was on an outing on Tuesday. She was busy onWednesday butwhenhedid notturnuponThursday she was worried and asked her brother, Derek Foreman, to check on him. Derek called at the house next door to Levi

where a key was held. He could not open the front door, heard a moaning noise and when he looked through the letter box he saw Levi lying on the floor. “I jumped over the back fence, the back

door was open and I could see Levi had col- lapsed against the front door,” he said. “A paramedic turned up, followed by an ambulance, and Levi was taken to Maid- stone Hospital.” Paul Hickmott and Carl Miners were driv-

ing along Recreation Avenue. “We were going by and saw Derek peering through Levi’s letter box,” said Paul. “We followed Derek round the back and there were pota- toes and chicken breasts for Levi’s Sunday

lunch on the worktop in the kitchen, so he must have collapsed on Saturday night or Sunday.” Levi has lived in Snodland all his life. He worked for British Gas before he retired. He now lives near his son, David, at Duchess of Kent Court, Royal British Legion Village, and was re-united with Michelle to say ‘thank you.’ “I was collapsed on the floor and hadn’t

been seen for three days,” he said. “When I woke up I did not know where I was and was told I was in Maidstone Hospital. I was later transferred to Hawkhurst Cottage Hos- pital and was in hospital altogether for eight weeks. “They undoubtedly savedmy life and I am forever grateful. I miss this café in so many ways but my son had been at me for a long time to move nearer to him in Aylesford, which I have now done.”

Local news for Snodland and Halling Live rail ignorance

horrifies Jade’s mum RACHEL Farrington (pictured), whose daughter Jade Kenyon died, aged 17, after touching the live rail line between Halling and Cuxton in 2006, has ap- pealed to pupils at Holmesdale Technology College for help in rais- ing awareness of dan- ger on railway lines. Jade attended Holmesdale School and Rachel gave an emotional speech high- lighting the loss Jade’s death made to her family. Network Rail’s controversial video showing horrifying images of in- juries and giving information and advice was also shown. “It was the first time I had seen the

DVD all the way through,” she told Town Talk. “I was speaking to 85 Year 9 kids and I was amazed that only one knew the live rail was live all the time. “Four of them admitted that, with friends, they had been on a railway line. That was quite a shock.” Rachel said her whole day in the school was worthwhile and pupils were talking about safety in general, not just rail safety. “All the work they did was really good,”

she added. “They made posters and leaflets, did power point presentations and some made a small DVD.” She will be returning to the school to

talk with other pupils and she would like to hold a competition and award a prize.
