by the back gate. A welcome quiet, comfortable place for riders to sit and take their clients for a snack between classes. Saer Coulter, 20 years old, from Peta-

luma, California waltzed away with the win. Riding Springtime, her double clear, and the win in that class, made the spectators cheer and clap for the young ones! Mark Watring was a very close second on Green Sleeps Vioco. The autograph session on the floor of the arena has turned into quite a party that goes on for some time, in the end it’s a wonderful way to wrap up this class.

Final class so far this year was the

Qualifier at the Del Mar International show. A favorite place for the riders to show, the amount of riders and horses that competed here saw a remarkable number with a lot of them just start- ing the big jumps. Olaf Peterson set a big, tough course and the riders loved it. Helen McNaught won riding Alison

Haefey’s Lariccello with double clear rounds and the jump off blazing. Second was John Pearce, and in his normal way of competing, he made the run for the last jump exciting. Specta- tors yelling “RUN, GO GO” could probably be heard all the way to San Diego. The qualifier journey continues throughout

the fall and into the spring. While the discussion goes on about what to do with the World Cup dilemma, the riders load up and go on the road again. Spring will see them wrap up the quest at Tom Struzzieri’s spectacular HITS Desert Cir- cuit. Maybe by then there will be an answer..or an option!
