FAMILY SHOWCASE

meeting Buddy. Together, following some time in Oregon, they ended up in Northern California in 2005. “I have been greatly influenced by everyone that I have

worked with and consider myself lucky to have gotten so much great information over the years,” Vanessa says with respect. “Lindy influenced my work ethic at an early age... she was amazing! She would get up at 4:30am so that we could have a lesson or two before school, and teach us again after school until sometimes 7:30 at night.” “She taught me to value the clients desire first and do ev-

erything in your power to help them achieve their goals. Ed- die taught me a lot about working with horses that were dif- ficult, quirky or had a bad start; he is a master at that. Larry is a magician with the hunters. He taught me a lot about how to get the best jump out of one, and how to make a horse go well for its owner. One of my favorite expressions comes from Larry; Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance (the 5 P’s).” “Of course my husband has had an enormous influence

on me. He has enabled me to take all the information I have and relate it to how the horse works and thinks. He has ex- panded my knowledge of flatwork and gymnastics and has taught me a lot about being competitive in the Jumper arena. He is truly amazing, and his love for teaching is inspirational. Another mentor is Karen Healey, a person whose passion

for teaching and work ethic is truly awe inspiring. If I have a question that Buddy and I can’t work out, I always go to her.” “While in Oregon, we had shown in Northern California

and I had done some clinics for Diamond Mountain Stables in Calistoga,” begins Buddy. “I really enjoyed the shows here and found the people to be very down to Earth and profes- sional. It’s always a pleasure to work with people you respect and at the same time work with pleasant clients; it is the best of both so we decided to relocate here and we love it.” “Most of my friends are in the horse business or participate

in some fashion’” says Buddy with a small grim. “It is easy to maintain those relationships through the year because we see each other all the time. We entertain when we can and Vanessa loves to cook, as long as it isn’t every night. When she cooks, she goes all out and it’s quite a feast. Recently, she have been working on various pastas from scratch. Some have turned out really well.” At the end of the day it is about relationships to them.

Buddy says it clearly, “Keeping balance to our lives, both private and professional, comes clearly down to how impor- tant these people are to us. We take what we have learned for our own relationship and make it the priority of how we live. Both of us value people first, starting with each other. THAT is what makes it work!”
