Endorsed Assembly candidates win; local races Nov. 8
By SHERRY HALBROOK All five of the state Assembly
candidates endorsed by PEF won their special elections in September to fill mid- term vacancies in those districts. The winners are: Philip Goldfeder in
the 23rd Assembly District and Michael Simanowitz in the 27th district, both in Queens; Dan Quart in the 73rd AD in Manhattan; Anthony Brindisi in the 116th AD in Oneida County; and Sean Ryan in the 144th AD in Erie County. David Weprin, whom PEF endorsed to fill a vacancy in the 9th Congressional
District in Brooklyn and Queens, lost his race. The union also has endorsed the
following candidates in local races to be decided in the November 8 general election:
PEF Region 1 –
• Paul Dyster for mayor of Niagara Falls, • Mark Poloncarz for Erie County executive,
• Maria White for Erie County clerk, • Betty Jean Grant, Lyn Marinelli, Jeremy Zellner and Jon Gorman for Erie County Legislature,
• Mark Manna for Amherst Town Council, • Mark Schroeder for Buffalo comptroller, • Sharon M. LoVallo for Erie County Family Court judge,
• Patrick NeMoyer for state Supreme Court judge, and
• Robert Russell for Buffalo City Court judge.
PEF Region 7 –
• William Nelson for Mayor of Ogdensburg.
PEF Region 8 –
• Dan McCoy for Albany County executive,
• Michael Conners for Albany County comptroller,
• Douglas Bullock for Albany County Legislature, and
• Ronald Wierzbicki for Amsterdam comptroller.
PEF Region 9 –
• Louis Falco for Rockland County sheriff, • Nancy Low-Hogan for Rockland County Legislature,
• Michael Spano for mayor of Yonkers, • Dan French for Dutchess County executive,
• Stephan Krasner for Newburgh town supervisor,
• Harley Doles for Monroe Town Council, and

Nominees needed for five Executive Board vacancies
Nominees are sought to fill five mid-
term vacancies on the PEF Executive Board. Members elected to fill mid-term
vacancies will serve until the regular three-year terms expire July 31, 2012. Nominating petitions will be
available beginning October 5 to fill the following vacancies: • Seat 35, which represents certain
members at the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, including those at Clinton, Camp Gabriels, Camp Adirondack, Camp Moriah, Franklin, Altona, Bare Hill, Mt. Lyon, Upstate and Chateaugay correctional facilities; • Seat 155, which represents certain
members at the Adirondack Park Agency; • Seat 285, which represents certain
members at the Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Services

Office in PEF Region 3, and all Region 3 members at the main office of the state Office for People with Developmental Disabilities; • Seat 440, which represents all
members of PEF Regions 9-12 at the state Office of Children and Family Services and members at Brookwood Center; and • Seat 510, which represents certain
members at the state Department of Transportation Region 8 and in Poughkeepsie. Nominating petitions must be
submitted to the PEF Special Elections Committee by October 27. If more than one candidate is certified for a seat, an election will be held. Ballots will be mailed November 14, for return by December 7. The American Arbitration Association will count them December 8 in New York City. — Sherry Halbrook
