Focus on Vauxhall: ecoFLEX range – 5 new models

Vauxhall is showcasing the cream of its ecoFLEX crop at Frankfurt this year, with no less than five new or revised new models destined for UK buyers.

The Insignia 2.0 CDTi ecoFLEX has seen the biggest improvement over any existing ecoFLEX model, its C02 emissions tumbling by 12.2 per cent to a figure of just 115g for the 160PS model with Start/Stop technology.

Despite the Insignia ecoFLEX’s unchanged performance, this now means that buyers of any body style will pay zero-VED in the first year, and just £30 per year from year two onwards (down from £95). For company car users, the news is just as good: BIK for the Hatch and Saloon ecoFLEX goes down from 18 to 13 per cent, and from 19 to 13 per cent for the Sports Tourer ecoFLEX.

Astra ecoFLEX

The most economical Astra ever, the new 99g ecoFLEX model mixes 76.3 mpg (combined) with 130PS and 300Nm of torque, meaning no compromise when it comes to performance. Efficiency savings have been made possible by technologies, such as Start/Stop, a braking energy recuperation system, an active aero-shutter on the radiator grille and a lowered body.

The 99g Astra ecoFLEX can be ordered now through Vauxhall dealers. Zafira Tourer ecoFLEX

Powered by Vauxhall’s 130PS 2.0 CDTi unit, the Zafira Tourer ecoFLEX comes as standard with Start/Stop technology, a new variable-geometry turbocharger, low rolling resistance tyres and an active aero-shutter in the radiator grille. As with other ecoFLEX models, the Zafira Tourer’s performance is not compromised, despite its efficiency. Maximum power is 130PS from the 2.0-litre common-rail engine, and up to 320Nm (with overboost function) of torque provides brisk mid-range acceleration.

Astra GTC ecoFLEX

Frankfurt will see the introduction of two 1.7 CDTi engines (with 110 and 130PS outputs) into the new Astra GTC range. While these will become the most economical models in the current range, next year will see the further introduction of two ecoFLEX models, again using the 1.7 CDTi engine with 110 and 130PS outputs. With a comprehensive package of ecoFLEX technologies as standard - including Vauxhall’s increasingly prevalent Start/Stop system - the GTC will produce just 109g/km and a combined fuel consumption of 68.9mpg.
