the Horse Park also hosts the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event each year, but also a fair number of foreign visitors made the trip to cheer on their favorites. Trakehner blood contributed significantly to the gold medal British team in the form of Opposition Buzz, a 13-year-old black Anglo- Trakehner gelding by Fleetwater Opposition, out of Jungle Bee by Java Tiger xx, bred and owned by Rosemary Search and ridden by Nicola Wilson. Known for his unorthodox, but very effective jumping
arena at the Kentucky Horse Park during the second week. Six horses of Trakehner blood, including one stallion, proved to the world that the Trakehners are steady, faithful mounts for their riding partners. Para dressage is divided into five grades of ability (I a,

style, “Dodi” is a proven cross-country horse. The combination placed 11th at the Rolex Kentucky Three- Day Event CCI**** and eighth at Badminton CCI**** in 2009. This is their second time representing Great Britain on a team. They were also part of the British team at the European Championships in Boekelo. An unfortunate draw put them first to go in the order at
the WEG, and Wilson felt that maybe their dressage marks were a little low because of that, but she also said that that was the way the sport goes. The pair finished the WEG on their dressage score of 51.2 in 15th place overall, but they had the fifth best cross-country and stadium jumping rounds. Wilson, who is from North Yorkshire, has ridden Opposition Buzz for seven years and taken him from the Novice level all the way to the Four Star level. She described Dodi’s personality, “He loves spending time outside in the field and he absolutely adores jumping. He’s a very happy horse and a joy to ride. He has a very unique way of going. He’s like a helicopter—up and down—but hopefully he scoots me to the other side of the fences and away we go.” Also in eventing representing Poland was Ostler,
14-year-old dark bay Polish-bred gelding ridden by Lukasz Kazmierczak. Ostler is by Juror xx, out of Ostka WLKP by Jaskier WLKP, bred by S.K. Goeljewko and owned by Mieczyslaw and Lucja Kazmierczak. The pair finished the event in 49th out of 80 competitors.

The individual silver medalist in Grade III was Annika Lykke Dalskov riding for Denmark on the 10-year- old black stallion PREUSSEN WIND, by E.H. Gribaldi, out of a mare by Schwadroneur and owned by Kaj Olesen from Errindlev, Denmark. They placed second in all three tests scoring 70.593% individually in the team test, 71.067% in the individual test and 75.4% in the freestyle to earn two individual silver medals and a team bronze. Denmark, which is on the island of Funen. Preussen Wind is also a busy breeding stallion and Dalskov said she had only been riding him for four months off and on over the last six months before the WEG. “Our schedule has been a little bit stressful because when I cannot ride, my body slows down and I have to get the feeling back. It takes some time for me to get into the movements again,” said Dalskov. “We have been here for two weeks, since the day before the Games started. The horses left Denmark on Monday and arrived at the Kentucky Horse Park on Friday and we arrived the same day as the horses. It was his first trip on an airplane, and he took the trip very well.” Dalskov was always a dressage rider prior to an

accident which caused her switch to para dressage. A very accomplished competitor, she won the gold medal in the World Championships in England in 2007 and an individual silver medal in the Paralympics in Hong Kong in 2008, as well as double gold at the 2010 Nordic Championships. Regarding the stallion, Dalkov says, “I call him ‘Prüsling.’

He is excellent around the barn. Even though he is a stallion, he is so calm and friendly. I can just walk him around in his halter. If he sees a mare, of course he notices, but as soon as I mount, he is absolutely with me. He is so easy to ride, easy in the hand and easy to move with my legs, especially since I have very little power in my legs. We can perform half passes, shoulder in, simple changes, pirouettes, everything; he is so lovely to ride. I’m very lucky
