Halpin: Perseverance Pays Off
Though she has been eventing at the upper levels for more than a decade, Sinead Halpin recently jumped into the limelight the first weekend of May when she was the highest placing American rider at the Rolex Kentucky three-day event CCI4*. Riding her Selle Français gelding Manoir De Carneville, (by Carneville out of Guab), Sinead topped some of the fiercest competition in the world when she finished third overall behind legendary British eventer Mary King, who won the event and also claimed second place.

country!” she says. “I am twenty minutes from the U.S. Equestrian Team at Gladstone, ten minutes from [show jumper] Anne Kursinski, 10 minutes from [dressage trainer] Betsy Steiner and one hour from downtown New York City! I have around twelve horses in the barn in training and for sales and competition. This area is awesome because it is rich in horses, but eventing is semi-new to the area. It has been fun getting dressage horses and jumpers in training and taking them to compete in their true disciplines as well as giving some of them a start at eventing.” Though natural talent and hard work play their part in her success,
