NEWS A hole new approach

Perfect Bore Manufacturing has announced that it is on the first step of the SC21 ladder. The company officially received its Bronze award at the A|D|S Taskforce meeting held at the Historic Dockyard, Portsmouth in July. Managing director Darren Laughton received the accolade

KMF fast tracks to silver

In a bold move, KMF (Precision Sheet Metal) has opted to bypass the SC21 Bronze level award and go straight for Silver in the confidence that its existing systems and working practices are already in advance of Bronze level requirements. “When we decided to submit ourselves for the SC21programme there were fewer than ten businesses that had achieved Silver accreditation,” said Terry Kimberlin, (above left), KMF’s UK sales manager. “This highlighted the difficulty of achieving this level of accreditation, but we were confident that the systems we already had in place would fit neatly into the SC21 programme and, with some minor adjustments to other areas of the business, it made sense to aim for the Silver award from the outset. With the opening of its Advanced Solutions facility last March,

the company says it has enhanced its appeal to companies looking to outsource precision sheetmetal assemblies. www.kmf.co.uk

Service expansion

Premium Aerotec says it has further expanded its service business with industrial production systems for aircraft manufacturing by setting up a structure assembly line for the new Russian commercial aircraft programme MS-21 in cooperation with mechanical and plant engineering group, Dürr.

“The participation of Premium Aerotec in setting up

assembly lines for MS-21 aerostructures is an important step ahead in growing our service business with industrial production systems,” said Joachim Nägele, Premium Aerotec

and praised fellow directors Steve Amey and Jason Wyles. “I was sceptical about SC21 when Steve and Jason first brought the idea to me some three years ago, as I was more interested in developing our technical expertise and capabilities rather than ensuring we provided a complete package of capability, capacity, quality and delivery,” he stated. “It’s to their credit they persisted in explaining this is not just a gimmick but a framework that we can adopt to shape our business and develop our infrastructure to service our customers and allow

our technical expertise to prosper.” www.pbm-ltd.com

BAE Systems wins £20m Typhoon order

BAE Systems Manufacturing at Hillend in Fife has been awarded a major contract worth in excess of £20 million to provide procurement and electronic manufacturing services to SELEX Galileo as part of its contract to deliver the Typhoon Tranche 3a Captor radar programme. “The recent award is a reflection of the strong business relationship between SELEX Galileo and BAE Systems Manufacturing Hillend,” stated general manager, Danny O’Brien. “The close working style will enable effective responses to existing and next generation programmes.” The Captor radar represents a major programme of

subcontract work for Hillend comprising multiple types of complex printed circuit boards and electronic modules, which make up one of the most vital elements of the radar system. Work on the programme is due to commence at BAE

Systems’ Hillend facility this year and will run until 2013. www.baesystems.com
