concept that has become ubiquitous in exhibitions throughout the world in recent years will also make a return to JEC Asia, and the organiser is keen to get people talking. Mutel explains: “In aerospace, two technology areas will expand. The first is automated fibre placement for the production of fuselage sections and the second is automated preforming processes and automated RTM, injection and infusion processes. Aerospace manufacturers are becoming more advanced and using higher technology, especially in the use of carbon fibre, but they have to improve in mass production. Automotive manufacturers are more advanced with large volume production but they need better expertise for lightness. They gain a lot to establish information exchanges, and JEC Asia provides the platform for such discussion.”
Bio-based beliefs So, the message coming from JEC, as it has been for some time now, is one of ambitious growth, but those companies demonstrating great demand also shoulder a great responsibility, and as Mutel explains, the event aims to encourage discussion about bio-
bio-based developments for composites, JEC Asia will also showcase new innovations that are impacting the automotive sector. Based on JEC’s annual survey, the adoption of composite materials in automotive end-use currently stands at around 6% of a vehicle’s weight. This level of penetration is expected to increase as advanced composites materials can help automakers to achieve significant weight reduction while cutting manufacturing costs.” Aerospace is clearly a major area
not only for quantity and advanced technology, but it is important to remember that other sectors will have an important part to play. Automotive, construction and wind (which is anticipated to quadruple in growth) are all developing rapidly, especially in China and all have something to teach each other. To do so, JEC Asia continues to be the meeting place for cross-sector
