TF1 pacts with Demons
Toronto-based Cinemavault has acquired the international rights to Pablo Croce’s Anderson Silva: Like Water, winner of the best new doc director prize at Tribeca. The film is about the longtime UFC champion.

BY CHRIS EVANS Film Factory Entertain- ment has taken worldwide sales rights to Jorge Torre- grossa’s hotly anticipated thriller The End (Fin). The film, which will be
presented to buyers at Toronto, is about a group of old friends who have a reunion at a mountain ref- uge where an incident raises tensions. Fernando Bovaira is pro-
ducing the project through his outfit Mod Produc-
ciones, alongside producer Enrique Lopez-Lavigne for Apaches Entertainment, Mercedes Gamero for Antena 3 Films and Misent Producciones. Writers are Jorge Guerricaechevarria and Sergio G Sanchez, and shooting starts this month. “It will surprise buyers
and become one of those great Spanish genre movies that have left their mark in the international market,” said Vicente Canales, head of Film Factory.
Winterbottom eyes Jack Black, Coogan projects
BY WENDY MITCHELL As he hit Toronto with new film Trishna (see p38), Michael Winterbottom said he is waiting to hear if his next project to shoot will be one with Jack Black or another with Steve Coogan. Depending on which
fi nance comes together fi rst, he may next direct Black in Bailout, based on Jess Wal- ter’s book The Financial Lives Of The Poets. Prescience is putting together the fi nance, and sister outfit Ealing Metro is handling sales.

lined up to direct a biopic of UK porn baron Paul Ray- mond. “Matt Greenhalgh is writing the script with Film4 financing,” Winterbottom noted. Steve Coogan, who worked with the director on 2010 TIFF premiere The Trip, brought the project into Revolution Films. “It’s a really powerful story, and also kind of funny,” said Winterbottom. Of Coogan starring as Raymond, he added: “It is absolutely per- fect, it’s too perfect, it’s scary.”
