Bunohan gains Traction, sells to Universal Pictures

dem with Arclight Films’ Asia-focused division, East- ernlight Films, to handle the sale of North American rights on the film. Easternlight is handling

DISCOVERY TIFF BRIEFS


Central seduces von Trier’s Nymphomaniac Central Partnership has acquired Russian rights to Lars von Trier’s next planned film, Nymphomaniac. TrustNordisk reports strong interest, and a script will be available in early 2012 ahead of the summer 2012 shoot. Meanwhile, TrustNordisk is selling his Melancholia, which screens here at TIFF.

Ealing adds Fast Girls Ealing Metro International has added sports drama Fast Girls to its slate. Noel Clarke, Jay Basu and Roy Williams wrote the script and Regan Hall will direct. UK producer Damian Jones has developed the project. StudioCanal has picked up UK rights.


Tribeca attached to Kaye’s Detachment Tribeca Film has picked up US rights to Tony Kaye’s Detachment, which stars Adrien Brody as the teacher of a class of disillusioned youths. Celluloid Dreams holds international rights and Mongrel Media will distribute in Canada, with Pretty Pictures releasing in France.


Bunohan focuses on the dark relationship between three brothers who end up fighting for their lives. “We are thrilled to be


representing Bunohan, which, beyond the action and suspense that will draw in audiences, is a beautiful


piece of film-making from a talented director,” said Trac- tion Media’s Maren Olson. The film is produced by


Nandita Solomon’s Apparat and co-produced by Tim Kwok’s Los Angeles-based Convergence Entertain- ment.


Bunohan (Return To Murder) Finecut slices through sales

In the festival’s Real to Reel section, Kim Ki-duk’s Arirang has sold to Italy (Punto Zero), German- speaking Europe (Rapid Eye) and Poland (New Horizons) in addition to Japan and Taiwan.
