Since the hotel was first conceived in


2005, its layout has been revised dramatically. According to developer Related Companies, a changing market suggested retail on the Strip had become saturated, and the conference guest was now driving mid-week trade. Working with interior architects Friedmutter Group, Related opted to reduce the hotel’s retail offering by 300,000ft2


, and dedicate


more space to conference and banqueting. Challenged with integrating the multiple elements of the public areas into a relatively small footprint of eight acres, Friedmutter embarked on creating a vertical flow of spaces to draw guests up from the below-grade parking, through four levels of public space, to the high-rise guestroom towers sitting on top. US-based Arquitectonica designed the shell of the mixed-use building, clad on the lower floors in angled glass panels to create a striking façade that opens up directly onto the


Strip. Interiors are the work of a stellar line up of design talents brought together by Related and injected with a “partnering attitude” which they believe has been critical to the success of the project. Working alongside Friedmutter, Rockwell Group was responsible for a series of spaces that have come to give the hotel its identity, while Tihany Design, Jeffrey Beers International, Studio Gaia, Asfour Guzy, Seed Design, and ICRAVE each designed a restaurant. Friedmutter has created semi-private gaming cabanas partially enclosed by beaded curtains. A further High-Limit Casino features a 60ft long, Czech crystal and rosewood lighting installation custom-designed by the Friedmutter Group. The main hotel lobby, accessed by car to the rear of the property, means that arriving guests aren’t forced to trail luggage through the casino to check in, as is the case with some hotels on the Strip. Designed by Rockwell Group, the lobby is a stark contrast to the casino. With its mirrored ceilings, dark granite floor, and bare minimal furniture, the space comes to life through a digital art installation modelled on the idea of creating a space that can change as quickly as Las Vegas does. Eight central columns wrapped in frameless LCD screens line the lobby providing a single canvas for customised digital art. The imagery on display – produced by Rockwell’s
