Animals Galore at Collier Museum A


nimals—real ones and some in temporary hu- man form and on the big screen—will dominate the Collier County Museum, in Naples, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., September 24. The free, family-friendly Animals


are Part of History event is part of National Museum Day, co- ordinated by Smithsonian magazine. The celebration will begin with a showing of the classic


film, Dr. Doolittle, starring Rex Harrison in the title role. Begin- ning at 12:30 p.m., staff members of the Kowiachobee Animal Preserve will exhibit several animals and educate attendees about local wildlife, and face painter Safari Sam will transform children and adults into a variety of creatures. Chic-Fil-A will serve free signature sandwiches and free bottled water provided by the museum.

Volunteers Needed for Coastal Cleanup Day


T


he local affiliates of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. are seeking volunteers to take part in the Ocean Con- servancy’s Coastal Cleanup Day, taking place on Sep- tember 17 at various sites throughout Collier and Lee counties. Keep Collier Beau- tiful, Inc. (KCB) needs vol- unteers from 8 to 11 a.m. at Delnor Wiggins Pass, Vanderbilt Beach, Lowder- milk Park, the Naples Pier


and Clam Pass, among other locations. Keep Lee County Beauti- ful (KLCB) will focus its efforts at Bonita Beach Park, Bowditch Point Park, Lovers Key State Park and the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva islands, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.


Both KCB and KLCB are nonprofit, public education or- ganizations that bring together diverse groups to help keep Southwest Florida waste-free through litter and marine debris control and prevention, recycling and education. The annual countywide beach cleanup relies upon volunteers to help make a difference.
