Golfer Trevor’s longest drive!

BEARSTED man Trevor Sandford has just teed off on a month-long, fund- raising tour of golf courses close to theM25. ThemarathonstartedonAugust1atthe

Mid Kent Club, Gravesend, near junction 1, andwill end on August 31 at the Orsett Club, Essex, near junction 31. Each day he is being joined by other golfers whose green fees will go to Cancer Research UK. In all, Trevor and his tee-mates will play 31 different courses in 31 days. Educational advisor Trevor came up with

the idea after constantly being stuck in traf- fic. He said: “I do a fair bit of travelling with my work and was inching my way along the M25 as usual when I started to wonder how many golf courses there might be nearby. “I realised there was at least one off every

PLANS to expand the Newn- ham Court Shopping Village are in the pipeline. A planning application for

retail development is ex- pected later this year and, if successful, construction work could be completed by 2014.

Details have not yet emerged but such a scheme would coincide with a nearby, major project to build a private hospital – Kent Institute of Medicine (KIMS) – north of the junc- tion of Bearsted Road and New Cut Road. Originally, the plan had

junction and that’s when I came up with the idea of playing one course, per junction, for 31 days,” he said. Local golfers of all levels are set to join

Trevor along the way, making up a four-ball at each club. He decided to raise funds for Cancer Re- search UK – his target is £5,000 – after friends and family members battled cancer. Trevor, who has a handicap of 12, has been backed in his quest by online golfing com- munity, TheSocialGolfer.com. golf day at Tudor Park Hotel on September 1. He recently received free Pilates coaching at the hotel to increase his core strength.

Expansion plans for Newnham Court

been to engineer a new roundabout there prior to the hospital being built. But as the two schemes are likely to overlap, KIMS developers nowwanttodelay the roundabout work until after the construction phase. Site access for large vehicles would be via a fourth arm of the existing three-arm roundabout. Agents for the hospital

said in a note to the borough council: “The [shopping vil- lage] development may re- sult in substantial changes to highway infrastructure at this location… resulting in

the KIMS roundabout works at New Cut being short-lived and possibly overlapping.” Delaying the roundabout

works to the end of the pro- posed KIMS construction phase would reduce disrup- tive road works, the note added.

Borough planners have

been asked to vary a condi- tion of the original KIMS consent to ensure a “proper phased development”. A temporary car-only ac-

cess to the KIMS site for con- tract staff would be sited 60meastofthe NewCut roundabout.
