The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is a not-for-profit technical institute and trade association established in 1921 to serve the structural steel design community and con- struction industry in the United States.

AISC offers two excellent references for those who design, build, own, and maintain parking garages. Innovative Solutions in Steel: Open- Deck Parking Structures, which was written for designers and owners, is an introduction to steel-framed parking structures that provides general information in a non-technical manner. AISC Steel Design Guide No. 18 - Steel-Framed Open- Deck Parking Structures - includes infor- mation on open-deck parking structures, design considerations for both deck and fram- ing systems, fire protection requirements and durability. It also helps structural engineers with strength and serviceability issues.

As a service to the design and construction industry, the Steel Solutions Center (SSC) was created to provide technical assistance, inno- vative solutions, and tools to facilitate the design of structural steel. The SSC can provide information on cost and scheduling as well as work with you on a conceptual solution to your parking needs.
