Maryland Association for Justice is proud to announce
- NEWS RELEASE - TRIAL LAWYERS REACH OUT WITH MAJ FOUNDATION
The Maryland Association for Justice (MAJ) is proud to announce the creation of the Maryland Association for Justice Foundation, an organization which will support and endow efforts to educate the public, promote public safety, and help those who need it most in Maryland.
Since 2000, MAJ (formerly the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association) has raised over $85,000 for various charitable and public outreach activities. With the creation of this 501(c)(3) foundation, MAJ will now have a greater ability to assist Maryland residents in need and promote safety.
“The MAJ Foundation will enable trial attorneys across Maryland to join in a coordinated effort to help the poor, encourage safety and educate the public regarding civil justice,” said MAJ Foundation President, Wayne M. Willoughby.
MAJ Foundation’s first project will be a partnership with the Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD) to collect donations for its 2010 Smoke Detector Drive & Community Sweep. MAJ has annually partnered with BCFD in the smoke detector drive, and served as the corporate sponsor for the 2009 BCFD Thrill Show in October. Distribution of smoke alarms will take place in early 2010.
In addition to its work with the BCFD, MAJ has hosted several other public outreach efforts, including the Public Awareness School Program. Founded in 2007, this program allows attorneys to visit Maryland schools and educate students on the importance of the civil justice system and careers in law. MAJ has also sponsored additional programs benefitting school children, such as the School Supply & Bike Helmet Donation Programs. The Foundation intends to continue and expand upon these charitable activities and engage in new projects as donations are collected.
