President’s Message Kevin I. Goldberg

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those MAJ members who have generously given their time and financial support to many of our public outreach efforts. Tis support has allowed MAJ to make a strong impact in the Maryland community stay strong to our commitment of “Keeping Families Safe.” Tough MAJ’s Public Awareness & Outreach Committee (chaired by David J. Wildberger), our Pro-Bono Committee (chaired by Jack Condliffe) and the newly formed Maryland Association for Justice Foundation (chaired by Wayne M. Willoughby) our actions reach far beyond the courtroom or Annapolis. MAJ’s Public Awareness & Outreach Committee

coordinates our Public Awareness School Program (PASP), Smoke Detector Drive & Distribution, School Supply Donation Program, Bike Helmet Donation Project and our annual donation to the Bea Gaddy Tanksgiving Dinner in Baltimore. Our Public Awareness Schools Program (PASP) allows MAJ members go into Maryland schools and educate students about the civil justice system and careers in law. Since its inception in 2007, the PASP program has visited over 30 schools. In recognition for its impact in Maryland schools, the PASP Program received the Maryland State Bar Association’s Best Project Award in 2008. Additionally, MAJ members donated over $2,000.00

to purchase school supplies for children at Mount Royal Elementary School in September 2009. On October 3, 2009 MAJ served as the corporate sponsor for the Baltimore City Fire Department’s Annual Trill Show and donated over $5,000. Over 20 MAJ volunteers assisted at the event. In March 2009 we donated over $7,000.00 to the Baltimore City Fire Department to purchase smoke detectors for over 230 homes, and our members and MAJ staff worked with the Fire Department to install some of these smoke detectors in East Baltimore homes. Also, for over 9 years, MAJ members have raised funds to purchase children’s bike helmets, which MAJ members distribute to local school children, who may otherwise go without. In addition to MAJ’s Public Awareness & Outreach

Projects, MAJ now has a Pro Bono Committee, and in November 2009 MAJ adopted a pro bono project whereby MAJ Members will have the opportunity to participate in Project Heal. Project Heal is a partnership between the Maryland Volunteer Lawyer Service (MVLS) and the Harriet
