in discrimination law and civil rights, gen- erally, as well as in other areas. A powerful record has been built, based upon statis- tical and other data that was not available when Murphy v. Edmonds was decided. MTLA hopes that this record, supported by experienced constitutional litigators John Vail and Ned Miltenberg at ATLA (whose compelling advocacy some of the courts hearing these challenges have ac- knowledged), will soon allow Maryland’s Court of Appeals to recognize that our cap is unconstitutional. MTLA has also supplied materials con- cerning the discriminatory impact of the cap to Maryland’s Select Commission on Gender Equality. By the time this issue of the Trial Re-

porter is disseminated, at least two more significant arguments, one in the Court of Special Appeals and another in one of

the Circuit Court cases, will have been argued, and one or more additional ap- peals are sure to have been filed. For this reason, we urge you to contact MTLA for the most up-to-date information.
