Maryland Trial Lawyers Association 2001 Trial Lawyer of the Year

MTLA Trial Lawyer of the Year Award

The MTLA Trial Lawyer of the Year Award may be bestowed annually upon the Maryland trial lawyer or team of trial lawyers (including at least one Maryland lawyer) who have made the greatest contribution to the public interest by trying or settling a case of precedential value – precedential either because it changed the law in a way that is beneficial to Marylanders or has for other reasons “sent a message” to those who might otherwise trample upon the rights of Maryland citizens. Nominees may have engaged in a broad range of committed work that furthers our goal of keeping Maryland families safe, including but not limited to civil rights, consumer rights, workers’ rights, human rights, and/or corporate accountability.

Nominations may come from a variety of sources: the general public, attorneys, and MTLA mem- bers (including members of MTLA's Board of Governors). The cut-off date for nominations each year is May 1. Up to three (3) finalists are then chosen by the award nominating committee, and the winner is voted upon by the board (by secret ballot if there is more than one finalist), at its mid-May meeting. The winner is then announced each year at the President’s Dinner when new officers and board members are installed.

The following material should be submitted in writing in support of nominations:

1. A letter from the nominating party describing why the individual or trial team should receive the award.

2. The full name, address, telephone number and current occupation of each nominated individ- ual.

3. A copy of each nominated individual’s current resume and/or a brief written summary pre- pared by the nominee outlining his or her background, education, experience, and work in the relevant field.

4. A description of the nominee’s relationship to MTLA or any MTLA members, if applicable. 5. Relevant press clips, list of published works, or other materials.

Nominations for this award MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE MTLA OFFICE ON OR BEFORE MAY 1, 2001
