Maryland Trial Lawyers Association 2001 Civil Justice Award

How to Nominate Individuals for the MTLA Civil Justice Award

Anyone (MTLA members, Legislators, the general public, etc.) may nominate an individual for this award. Nominations for the MTLA Civil Justice Award, which may be bestowed annually, must be received by the MTLA office on or before May 1, 2001.

Each nominee must qualify under the following criteria:

The candidate shall be a person or organization who was injured and/or acted on behalf of injured consum- ers, and who through his/her work demonstrates a compassion and commitment to keeping Maryland fami- lies safe, through advocacy on behalf of Maryland consumers and/or on behalf of those seeking to advance or preserve access to the courts.

Nominations may come from a variety of sources: the general public, attorneys, and MTLA members (including Board members). The cut-off date for nominations each year is May 1. Up to three (3) finalists are then chosen by the award nominating committee, and the winner is voted upon by the board (by secret ballot if there is more than one finalist), at its mid-May meeting. The winner is then announced each year at the President’s Dinner when new officers and board members are installed.

The following rules apply: 1. The candidate may not be an MTLA member or employee of MTLA.

2. The candidate must be present to accept the award at the annul President’s dinner when installa- tion of new board members and officers takes place. The following material should be submitted in writing in support of nominations:

1. A letter from the nominating party describing why the individual or organization should receive the award.

2. The full name, address, telephone number and current occupation of the nominee.

3. A copy of each nominee’s current resume and/or a brief written summary prepared by the nomi- nee outlining his/her/its background, education, experience, and work in the relevant field. 4. A description of the nominee’s relationship to MTLA or any MTLA members, if applicable. 5. Relevant press clips, list of published works, or other materials.
