A Change of Plans – Part 2 BY CAROL WRIGHT T

he last time I wrote (RVT 136: July/August 2010 pg. 57) we had nicely settled into our new park model and were enjoying our life in Fort Greenwood.

T e summer was fantastic here in the interior of BC. Our

close-knit community enjoyed hot weather, cooling off in Boundary Creek, spontaneous pot-luck dinners, happy hours, and good conversation. Visitors were always welcomed, and I even made a couple of trips to Vancouver to see my mom and daughters. It’s

great to see family and I did enjoy a little shopping but in reality these visits re- confi rm the fact that I do not miss one tiny bit of the traffi c, noise, and pollution of the big city. I was born in Vancouver and lived most of my life there so you’d think I would be immune to the madness of it all, but I seem to have acquired an allergy to congested noisy streets and crowds of people. Instead I thrive on wildlife, the soothing sound of the creek fl owing at the back of our property, and a much slower pace of life here in Greenwood BC. T is past winter we made plans to return to our favourite RV Park in Gold Canyon

just outside Phoenix, Arizona. We rented a park model and packed up the car with all the stuff we thought we’d need. Naturally we had to squeeze in Jiminy our Main Coon Cat, his bed, his food and of course, oh joy, his litter box! A long trip by car was going to be a new adventure for us and for the cat. Last time, we all were comfy travelling in the motorhome but who knows how a cat that is bigger than most small dogs will react when confi ned in a small space for long periods of time? Luckily he settled right in and even seemed to enjoy checking out the pet-friendly motel rooms we stayed in along the way. When we arrived at Canyon Vistas RV Park we found our

rented park model to be in great shape and fully outfi tted for our stay but we were a little shocked by its size and the quality of its fi nishing! While we fi nd our 13 x 45 foot park model in Fort Greenwood to be very comfortable and totally

adequate in size for full-time living, these vacation models are much shorter and narrower. T eir windows are small and fairly narrow while our home in Fort Greenwood has double-paned windows, which are large and plentiful, allowing us a clear view of our trees, lawn, and wildlife. I don’t think I’d like to live in a 10 x 30 foot model for six months and can totally understand why many folk add Arizona rooms. We did end up purchasing a winter

home on the border of Mesa and Apache Junction this past year and we very much enjoyed the winter. We met great new neighbours and, in between painting and redecorating, attended lots of Snowbird functions. We feel very privileged to be able to have two homes and while the desert is lovely, there is absolutely nothing like pulling through the gates of Fort G r e e n w o o d and seeing our friends, our house and the green, green grass of home!
