Know Before You Go! Drivers planning to take US 12 between Morton and Yakima
this summer should prepare for delays as the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) starts the fi rst of three projects to make travel on US 12 safer and smoother. More than 4,000 vehicles travel US 12 east of Morton every day.
T at number increases to about 5,800 on the weekends as drivers head for recreation areas in east Lewis and west Yakima counties.
US 12 – White Pass – Slope Stabilization project: Drivers just west of White Pass (mileposts 143 to 154.5) can
expect single-lane traffi c with fl aggers from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, as WSDOT contractor Janod Inc. of Dorian, Quebec, begins construction on a slope stabilization project. T e $3.1 million project is one of 11 slope stabilization projects
WSDOT is delivering along a 25-mile section of US 12. It is scheduled for completion in October. Two US 12 paving projects: WSDOT is paving multiple sections of US 12 this summer with
two projects between Morton and the east side of White Pass (mileposts 102 to 159). Starting in July, drivers between Morton and Randle (mileposts
102 to 119) can expect single-lane traffi c and 20-minute delays while crews with Granite Construction Company remove and repave aging asphalt pavement. Drivers can expect similar delays for a second paving project
to replace badly deteriorated pavement along an 18-mile section of US 12 between Packwood and Rimrock Lake (mileposts 142 to 159), including paving over the summit of White Pass. T is project is scheduled for construction in July or August. T e best way to pack your patience is to get in the loop before
