October 5 Continuing on Highway 20, we returned

to the North Cascade area marveling at the autumn colours on the way. We decided to stay at Winters Early Creek for the night. T is is a small, rather primitive site that off ers six camping spots. T ere is no water available at this time of year, so we were glad that we had fi lled our trailer with water. Although the washrooms were pit toilets, it was large enough to accommodate a wheelchair. T is is a great place for weary travelers aſt er a long day on the road. T ere is a rocky trail leading to a clear, sparkling creek. Brodie and Chance loved splashing in the cold water!! At only $8 a night it was very reasonable.

October 6 Our last full day, we slowly headed

towards Omak. T is time we stopped at the small touristy town of Winthrop. What a quaint little place this is,

off ering so much wonderful interesting history. In 1890, this town was a booming trading post to accommodate the sudden invasion of miners that lived in the area. Although the mines eventually closed, this settlement refused to become a ghost town. Today Winthrop has a decidedly western, frontier theme. You can still see many of the old business signs of bygone days. We walked along the boardwalks to take in all the shops and had time to sit outside the general store to savor an ice cream. T e boardwalk is wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs; however, there the walkway is interspersed with steps at each street corner and entranceways into the shops. I was impressed to note that they had a large parking lot for RVers to park their trailers, as the streets are too narrow to maneuver and to park large vehicles. Our last night was spent at Eastside RV

Park, which is located near Omak. There were a large number of British Columbia license plates in this campsite. I soon discovered why! For only $20 a night it offers full hook-ups –water, sewer and electricity. Many RVers stop here on route to California and Arizona to load up with groceries. I imagine many also stop here to regroup on their way home and to clean up their trailers before heading home. There is even a shuttle bus that takes you into town. The sites are side by side but there is a large grassy area to take the dogs for a stroll in the evening. We crossed the border and arrived home

weary but with many wonderful memories of our trip to the Pacifi c Northwest with promises to return again soon. ❖
