ome old familiar faces have made a return to the canadian superbike championship by Parts canada this summer.

Brett McCormick (OK, maybe not so

old) has rejoined the series after a one- year sojourn to the United States. Shan- nonville Motorsport Park and Autodrome St-Eustache are back on the national tour, St-Eustache for the first time since 2003. So while there is much new about the

series, including the introduction of the K&N Performance Filters Amateur Super- bike class and Harley-Davidson XR1200 Cup, there is plenty to evoke memories of past national title battles. Indeed, the return of McCormick to the

series immediately cast thoughts back to 2009, when he and Jordan Szoke fought a fierce and dramatic battle for the Canadian Superbike crown. Many anticipate a repeat of that fight, but there is much more to enjoy. Among the stories that will unfold will be

the continued rise of BMW as a star of the Superbike world and the development of young Pro racers like Andrew Nelson, Michael Ferreira, Alex Welsh, Jodi

Christie and Cody Matechuk. For the first time in many years the Pirelli

Pro Sport Bike champion is not defending his number one plate, throwing that title wide open. The Amateur Sport Bike class, now sponsored by Inside Motorcycles, and Amateur Superbike divisions will intro- duce a host of new names, and perhaps a superstar of tomorrow, to Canadian racing enthusiasts. Similarly, after spectacular growth last season, the Honda CBR125R Challenge will provide young racers an op- portunity to learn the ropes in a highly competitive setting – and provide some great action for fans. And there is the XR1200 Cup, a cate-

gory that has been greeted with much en- thusiasm in England and the United States, now making its Canadian debut. McCormick’s bid to end Szoke’s record

string of five straight Canadian Superbike crowns will no doubt occupy a great deal of attention, but there will be a lot more going on as well. The 2011 Canadian Su- perbike Championship by Parts Canada program is designed to give you all the background you need to enjoy all aspects of the national championship. Happy reading and enjoy the action.
