Pirelli Pro SPort bike Preview

Even more impressive in the first round

was Granby, QC’s Jeremie Hade Precourt, who moved up from the back row of the grid to finish second on the JHP Racing / Pi- cotte Motorsport Suzuki. The 17-year-old was the lone rider to beat Archambault in Amateur Sport Bike last season and looks prepared to take his performance up a notch in the Pro ranks as well. Although his ICAR results didn’t show it

(he finished 10th) Warman, SK’s Bodhi Edie will be another rookie Pro worth watching. A star in both the Honda CBR125R Challenge and last year’s Amateur Sport Bike Champi- onship the Edie Racing Honda CBR600RR rider should move toward the front as the season continues. The Ruthless Racing / Deeley Harley-

Davidson Canada Buell 1125Rs of Darren James and Dave Estok will add some v-twin Thunder to the Pro Sport Bike class again this year. Estok was a solid fourth in points last summer but the New Smyrna Beach, FL racer had to miss this year’s season opener after injuring himself in a training accident. Teammate Darren James picked up fifth

at Circuit ICAR. The North Vancouver, BC ace was 11th in points last year but was only able to take in a partial schedule. Com- mitted this year to a full season, he will be in

16

the mix. An intriguing performance at ICAR came

from Kemptville, ON’s Sean Huffman, who placed third on the Pro 6 Cycle-backed Honda CBR600RR. A frontrunner in the National Amateur

ranks Huffman hadn’t made much of an im- pression since moving up to Pro but his ICAR result hinted at great potential for the season. Huffman was in the thick of the bat- tle for third throughout the race and snatched the last spot on the podium from no less a talent than Archambault on the final lap. It will be interesting to see how Huffman

stacks up at tracks like Shannonville, where he has run for much of his early career.

Other names could undoubtedly crop up

in the thick of the Pirelli Pro Sport Bike ac- tion. Marie-Josee Boucher is back with her Excel Honda-backed CBR600RR, recovered from injuries that brought an early end to her 2010 season at Mosport. Sylvain Dery gave a good account of himself at ICAR on a Yamaha YZF-R6 and former Amateur fron- trunner Joey McRae also campaigned an R6 in the season opener. As mentioned off the top, the title race is

wide open. Will Christie fulfill the promise of 2010? Will Trombino recapture some of the old glory? Will Welsh and Saleemi concoct some more magic? Will one of the rookies upset the establishment? It will be interest- ing to find out.
