RIBI Conference - Dublin
The Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland Conference in Dublin hailed as a great success; Rotary members were inspired and ready to take on new challenges in the coming year.
Delegates had travelled from as far away as Sweden to experience this unique event, which brought thousands to Dublin's RDS. One of the many highlights of this three day event were the RIBI Young Citizens Awards, which were presented live from the RDS on the BBC News Channel. Combined with energetic presentations by Rotary Peace Fellows and Rotaract Chair, Claire Mackie, the audience were left in no doubt just how important and how effective youth projects are for the future of Rotary. Youth also featured strongly in “The Spotlight on Rotary” area entertaining the crowds on Saturday.
Fourteen‑year‑old Bradley Parker from Portavogie the Northern Irelandʼs
Young Musician of the Year for 2011. Playing the bagpipes Bradley gave a rousing winning performance playing a selection of jigs. Bradley has been playing the pipes since he was five‑years‑old, and has an already established reputation as an outstanding performer
The junior choir from the Model School, Enniskillen travelled en masse to entertain the delegates and visitors singing selection of local and international pieces to great acclaim.
The final day of the RIBI Conference focused on peace. Terry Waite spoke of the power of peace, and how everyone has a role to play in stopping conflict, wherever it may be: "Do not be afraid to raise your voice in defence of peace and for those who are defenceless.” He said Following on from the successful Dublin Conference, Ray Burman RIBI President and the 29 RIBI District Governors invite you to attend the 87th RIBI Conference in Bournemouth from 13th ‑ 15th April 2012
