community. The outcomes from this service however, are exponentially increased when we act as a collective; in the first instance as an active and productive Rotary club member and then as a District of active and productive Rotary clubs. One of the major strengths we have as Rotarians in the ability to act collectively as an international organisation to the benefit of our brothers and sisters across the world. In recent times, the positive result of our collective action is best exemplified by the Polio Plus campaign where together we are fulfilling the promise made in 1985 to eradicate Polio from the face of the earth.
The beginning of each new Rotary year is filled with great productivity, excitement, and anticipation. I offer my sincere thanks to all Rotarians and supporters of our work for all your endeavours which have contributed enormously to our sucesses over the last 100 years. As Rotarians we are privileged to be in a position to apply our education, acumen and experience to the service of others. Serving others as individuals is a wonderful thing to do and can add value to and enhance the store of a
The District team have a clear brief, developed by Rotary International (RI), reconfirmed and enhanced in our District Strategy and focused on in our own planning and training to support and strengthen clubs, focus and increase humanitarian service and enhance the public image and awareness of Rotary. The District team is in place to help Rotary clubs and Rotarians achieve our collective service objectives. To achieve these objectives and ensure that the next generation has the same privilege to serve others as we now have we must bring new members into Rotary that fully reflect our diverse society. I ask that each of you strive to bring one new member into your club before Christmas. All District officers are at your disposal to provide help and support.
We must all support The Rotary Foundation
(TRF) as it is a vital part of Rotary service through providing funding for scholarships, domestic and international projects, facilitating peace in our world and the eradication of Polio. I urge you all to support the three funds of TRF and specifically to become a Sustaining Member and in addition help achieve our target of US$6,000 per club for Polio Eradication by 30 June 2012. All of us should be involved in at least one meaningful project at a club level reflecting the essence of what we actually do in Rotary; serve others. I urge you also, as your circumstances permit, to consider taking up a leadership positions at Club and District level. The dedication, focus and skill that each of us brings is the life blood of our organisation which enables the delivery of effective service to all. Finally, we must tell our communities and the world of the work that we do. Good public relations attracts support, increases our capacity as Rotarians to serve others and brings new members into our clubs: Please tell the story. I wish great success to all, not only in this Rotary year but into the future in our Rotary service. Our world will be a better place if we each commit random acts of kindness as we live out our lives.
