Accommodation and Housing On the accommodation front, the MoD is looking to develop an ‘alternative approach’ to the provision of accommodation for Service personnel and their families. Known as the Future Accommodation Project, we have already submitted evidence on what RAF families feel about current and future accommodation provision and we will continue to gather evidence on this topic this year. We are also engaged in the Next Generation Estates Contract programme, providing evidence from a customer perspective which we hope will influence the future contract and enhance customer satisfaction in both allocation and maintenance services.
Local Communities One of the key commitments in the Covenant is a £30m fund over 4 years to support new Community Covenants, by which local communities will be encouraged to support their local Armed Forces communities, and vice versa. The
intent is to include public sector service providers, the private sector, and the volunteer and community sectors in considering how best to provide targeted support to their Armed Forces. Local groups, including RAF families and Service charities, can apply for funding to support practical projects aimed at delivering support to the Armed Forces albeit finer details on this process are not yet known.
We encourage all RAF family members to take the time to read the detail (available via our website at:
www.raf-ff.org.uk) and to then get in touch if they have evidence they wish to share. Family members can certainly highlight where the measures require further work but can also provide feedback as to where local delivery is already working well. We will continue to represent the views of RAF families via the new Covenant Reference Group and we will be seeking the views of RAF family members as to their understanding of the Covenant and its impact on their daily lives.
