IN THE WORKPLACE

TRAINING • Research vocational training options • Check pre-requisites of course • Provisionally book course • Submit Application to Attend Resettlement Training Activities via JPA

• Organise funding and complete payment • Confirm place on course

CTP offers a range of over 50 job-related training courses at the RTC Aldershot and in the RRCs. Subjects include Management Training, Electrical Engineering and IT qualifications, Security industry courses and other trade skills. Most courses lead to qualifications and others can result directly in jobs.

The CTP is unique in that it offers courses which are funded by MoD. This contract-funded training offers exceptional value for money and is by far the best use of your Individual Resettlement Training Costs (IRTC) grant, which will automatically be deducted by £26.70 per day of CTP training. Each course lasts 5-20 working days.

In addition, the RTC and RRCs offer a wide variety of other courses outside of the MoD contract that can be paid for by using your £534 IRTC grant. These still offer excellent value without compromising on quality.

On behalf of the MoD, the CTP also administers an extensive Preferred Suppliers List of local external training providers in order to ensure Service leavers have the widest choice available to them. To achieve Preferred Supplier status, training organisations must demonstrate financial reliability, appropriate insurance cover, satisfactory past performance, future plans, training facilities, accreditation levels and quality standards, and their training outcomes must be in demand by both Service leavers and local industry. Preferred Supplier list status is subject to continuous evaluation.

Subject to MoD’s ‘local training first’ policy, Service leavers also have the option of selecting a training provider that is not accredited by the CTP. If you choose this route, however, you are advised to personally check the company’s accreditation, training and quality standards.

STEP 3 – GETTING THAT ALL IMPORTANT JOB EMPLOYMENT • Receive RightJob password (normally during your CTW) • Review skills and locations on RightJob account • Check CTP website for employment events and book to attend

CTP employment services are provided by 24 Employment Consultants around the UK and an online job matching website, RightJob, which can be accessed via the CTP website. Service leavers can log on to search for jobs that fit their criteria and employers can register at no cost and upload vacancies and search for candidates.

All Employment Consultants are experts in their local employment market and through direct liaison with employers provide a constant flow of job opportunities and well-informed guidance and advice on opportunities in their local area.

Many major employers already use the CTP job finding services because they recognise that Service leavers can bring not only professional skills but excellent transferable qualities to their organisations. These include soft skills and attributes such as self discipline, reliability, teamwork and loyalty which are of great value to employers.

Supporting Veterans Support does not end once leavers have been out of the Forces for more than two years and are therefore no longer eligible for resettlement services. In addition to their work as part of the Career Transition Partnership, the Regular Forces Employment Association (RFEA), The Officers’ Association (OA) and the Officers’ Association Scotland, are registered Charities, who provide employment help and support to all ex-Service men and women throughout their working lives.

Helping you make that next great step The good news is that Service leavers are highly employable. In fact a 2007 National Audit Office report found that 66% of Service leavers find a job within one month of leaving the Forces. That figure rises to 94% being in full-time employment within six months of leaving, and 97% within 12 months.

However, there’s no room for complacency, and not just because the job market has recently got tougher. Successful resettlement requires clear aims, good job intelligence, effective networking and an intelligent approach to employers. It can also help to acquire extra skills. It’s therefore vital to take full advantage of the resources and facilities at your disposal.
