Services and
Armed Forces Resettlement – Working for You The Career Transition Partnership (CTP) is the official provider of resettlement services for those leaving the Armed Forces and assists over 10,000 personnel each year. However you are leaving the Service, whether you have applied for redundancy or maybe facing it involuntarily, you are encouraged to find out about the range of support available to you. This is essential in planning for your future and ensuring you get the most out of the outstanding resettlement provision on offer.
If you are leaving under Redundancy terms it is expected that, in most cases, you will qualify for the Full Resettlement Programme and the service of the CTP. You can check your individual case with your Regional Resettlement Adviser (RRA).
Full Resettlement support is available to eligible Service leavers from up to two years before discharge from the Forces and up to two years afterwards. This covers one-to-one support from a career consultant, undertaking vocational training courses and finding that all important job in Civvy Street.
Career Consultants can advise on tailoring CVs to a specific job specification and help with preparation for interviews. Combined with attendance at different workshops, leavers realise their transferable skills and how to market them successfully to employers.
The Resettlement programme is delivered to Service leavers at nine Regional Resettlement Centres (RRC) located on military bases around the UK and one in Germany. In addition, the Resettlement
Training Centre (RTC) at Aldershot has bespoke workshops where training courses in building, IT and engineering are taught. Classroom based courses in management are also delivered at the RTC, as well as at RRCs to ensure that they are accessible to as many Service leavers as possible.
So, what should you do next?
STEP 1 – SPEAK WITH YOUR REGIONAL RESETTLEMENT ADVISER (RRA) • Attend initial Resettlement brief and interview with RRA
• Confirm and understand full range of entitlements • Complete an Application for Resettlement Services via JPA
The RRA can explain eligibility and what you are entitled to. Time off to attend an interview with an RRA is regarded as duty and may attract travel and subsistence allowances (for more details, refer to the Tri-Service Resettlement Manual, JSP 534).
Once your request for resettlement services via JPA has been processed, your nearest CTP Regional Resettlement Centre will get in touch and you’ll be invited to book on a three day Career Transition Workshop (CTW) and a one-to-one interview with a Career Consultant.
STEP 2 – BOOK YOUR RESETTLEMENT
ACTIVITIES WITH THE CTP TRANSITION • Book Career Transition Workshop • Submit an Authority to attend Resettlement Activities via JPA
• One to One with Career Consultant • Complete Personal Resettlement Plan • Research additional CTP workshops • Complete draft CV • Maintain regular contact with Career Consultant
As part of our Full Support Programme, you will be allocated a personal Career Consultant, who will be accessible throughout your resettlement. They will work with you to develop a Personal Resettlement Plan (PRP) – a timetable of actions designed to help you find a job or develop a career.
Your Career Consultant can explain the benefits of attending our events and can also advise on training or trial attachments. You can see them as often as you want, by appointment, and your spouse or partner is also welcome to attend sessions.
