Women in Aviation 2012 Scholarships Already at $375,000
Although the available schol- arships for 2012 won’t be announced for approximately 30 days, companies, organiza- tions and individuals have already pledged more than 48 scholarships totaling $375,000 available to WAI members.
These scholarships cover expenses for academic study, technical training, flight train- ing as well as specialized aviation activities, including recreational flying, engineering and mainte- nance. “We’ve never had this many scholarships pledged this early,” says WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian. “This bodes well for our 2012 scholarship program.”
In 2011, a total of 76 scholar- ships valued at $691,750 were distributed to WAI members at every stage of life from university students to mature members seeking a career change to avia- tion. These scholarships were awarded during the 22nd Annual International Women in Aviation Conference held in February in Reno. “Our scholarships are a vital member benefit,” says Dr. Chabrian. “Hundreds of mem- bers – both men and women – have benefited from the avail- ability of the scholarships they were awarded.”
Scholarships available for 2012 will be posted at
www.wai.org in mid-July 2011. These scholarships will be awarded during the 23rd Annual
International Women in Aviation Conference at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, from March 8-10, 2012. For more information, visit
