A LOCAL karate club topped the medals table at a national championship for the first time in its short history. The Kimura Shukokai club, which runs
club sessions at Maidstone, Kingswood, Marden, Lenham and Charing, brought home 11 gold, three silver and five bronze medals from the Birmingham venue. The club got off to a flying start in the
team kata event, with Sensei Katie Simp- son, Elle Osborne and Samantha Riddell progressing to the final, where they beat the experienced Blackheath team. The senior grade cadet team of Jack Cut-
ler, Adam Axford and Christine Bordean also won through to the final where they produced a strong performance to take the club’s second gold.
In the junior grade cadet team kata event
the club entered three teams and the “B” string, Sammy Goodsell, Ted Kinnersley and Ania Szczepaniak, took a creditable third place. The “A” team of Finley Lodge, Lawrence Bordean and Natalie Mycka stormed into the final where they won gold to make a clean sweep of the team kata events for the club. In the individual categories, Sensei Katie
