Te song I am singing on the album, ‘Designer Love’ was specially written for the CD by Paul Brady and Ronan Hardiman. Working with Paul was an absolutely extraordinary experience. Initially, it was a little intimidating since he’s got such a tremendous reputation as a songwriter! But he was so welcoming and his energy was an inspiration, all on its own. In the studio, he worked tirelessly with me to make sure the magic happened. I hope the energy and love that went into ‘Designer Love’ comes across. Tis has to be one of the most inspirational and exciting moments of my career.
I can recall the first compilation, I remember those songs were played a lot at home. My parents had a huge record collection, full of all the classics and in particular, all things Irish. So I grew up listening to Frances and Mary Black, Maura O’Connell, Dolores Keane, Sharon Shannon and Eleanor McEvoy.
It really set a ‘gold standard’ that I aspire to in terms of my creative career.
As far as challenges go there have
been many so far, both personal and professional. I am very fortunate to have always had music to help me through times that have been difficult and to help me celebrate the things that make me happy. Life is always going to throw you some new challenges, something unexpected.
I think you overcome most challenges because you have good people around you. I’ve overcome challenges through sheer hard work, opening up and talking about whatever the problem is to some close to me, and some therapy thrown in for good measure!
Some of my happiest times have been learning to swim, beating my Dad at poker, still
trying to beat my mother
at tennis and having some of the best family and friends a girl could ever hope for. For the most part, I feel like I’m in a really good place in my life right now.
In terms of my career to date, making music and being able to connect with people as a singer song-writer makes me very happy. I’m really excited about my album coming out, and the incredibly warm and positive feedback from my life shows so far makes me feel very happy. And also incredibly proud, focused and determined to keep writing and singing in the belief that I’m doing something right!
