e talks about their lowest point business wise, when a month after 9/11 they were due on tour, they went thinking it would cheer people up and bring them out
of their homes, but it was too soon and lost the band money as promoters who saw the low turn outs didn’t want to book them again, for fear of losing money. Building their reputation back up in the states after that was difficult, and not because of the fan response, Norwood hastens to add, purely because of the lack of faith from the promoters themselves.
It was close to this time, that an album called “The Nutcase Scenario” was in the works also, it got lost. Never made. However songs that were supposed to be on that album found their way on to others in later years, especially live albums. Angelo agrees with
Norwood “that would have been our second record made with Dallas Austen, but that stuff ended up on things like “neurotic friends at work” and “live at the temple bar” some of it on “still stuck in your throat” and we’ve just done a new recording and a lot of that will be on the EP.” I have to say, I’m rather thrilled, especially as Norwood has it in his mind to rework it, especially as “the nutcase scenario” is one of his favourite names.
The new EP is also under scrutiny as people want a physical release and not just an online/I-tunes thing. He confirms that yes not only will their be a release, but a vinyl release also, in the summer, using picture discs, hopefully with red/yellow/green vinyl. I’ve asked for a pink one… fingers crossed! The summer release is 100% for the states, and the band is aware there is a world wide plan, but they aren’t sure what time scale it’s on. Rest assured those out their awaiting this, you can buy it by the end of the year (hopefully sooner).
Fishbone are back in the UK and Europe in August for the EP release, they also have a plan for the rest of the world. They want to go to Fiji (for the surfing) and I also get a world exclusive. Fishbone are embarking on the “Night of the living Fish Brains” (living colour, bad brains and fishbone) Tour, starting in Brazil. November 12th 2011.
