LOWESTOFT COLLEGE

Offshore Wind Training

Focus Lowestoft College

The training of our professionals in the wind energy industry has, and will continue to be an important focus within our publication.

Lowestoft College is playing a vital role in ensuring that there is approved training, pertinent to the wind energy industry available, and we will therefore be focusing on the work of the college in this and forthcoming issues.

When visiting the college and meeting the Assistant Principal, Tom Toolan we were impressed by both his and the team’s enthusiasm for not only the aspirations of the college, but also the wind energy industry specifically and the perceived challenges which lie ahead.

It is now common knowledge that the industry has a huge skills gap to fill and Tom and his colleagues are very aware of the situation. They have no doubt that they can considerably help supply the much needed training required, whether to mature students with transferable skills, or new recruits to the industry from the schools sector.

LOCATION

Lowestoft College is perfectly positioned in the East of England to satisfy the training demand from companies who are involved with the present offshore wind farm projects off the east coast, as well as the daunting round 3 projects planned for the North Sea in the foreseeable future.

MARINE SAFETY FOR OFFSHORE WIND

Lowestoft College is one of the UK's leading maritime and offshore safety training centres serving the offshore wind, oil & gas and related marine logistics and shipping sectors. It is committed to the delivery of first class training to seafarers and offshore personnel worldwide.

The college’s affinity with the sea is long standing and it continues to track the opportunities the North Sea brings. It has modified its provision and is now offering marine safety training to construction, engineering and marine teams working on the commissioning, construction and ongoing operations and maintenance of offshore wind farms.

TRAINING PROVISION

Courses include MCA approved Personal Survival, First Aid at Work, Wind Turbine Electrical Awareness and Marine Transfer – vital training which combines to better prepare and equip people with the practical safety awareness and hazards of working in the offshore wind sector.
