The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Reading, is one of four four-star hotels, owned by Pederson, that has been bought after the company went into administration.


The 122-bedroom Crowne Plaza, plus the Regency Park Hotel, Thatcham, and the Winchester Hotel, Winchester, have also been acquired – along with a hotel in Sheffield.


The Crowne Plaza has been bought by Redefine Hotels Reading (RHR) for £12.75 million. RHR is reported to be a subsidiary of Redefine International Hotels, which acquired five Holiday Inn hotels in London for £106m last summer.


The Winchester Hotel has been bought by Quantum Hotels, a wholly-owned subsidiary of private family company Carnarvon Hotels, while a wealthy overseas investor with

an existing hotel portfolio in the UK is said to have acquired the Regency Park Hotel.


Pedersen was placed in administration by Grant Thornton in June 2010, while the sale of the Crowne Plaza Reading was handled separately.


Meanwhile, Arora Hotels plans


to develop and operate a four- star, 200-bedroom property opposite Ascot racecourse.


Planning consent is being sought for the hotel, which will be sited on the High Street with direct, underground access to the racecourse.

hotel, it will have a restaurant and spa, and is the second property that Arora Hotels, owned by chief executive Surinder Arora, is developing close to a sporting venue. Plans are also in the pipeline for the building of the four-star, 170 bedroom Arora hotel at the Kia Oval.
