news New leader for Deloitte’s south region
Deloitte has announced that Graham Pickett has taken over leadership of its south region’s offices. He has been with the firm for 30 years, most recently managing the Gatwick office
Pickett is on the executive of the UK firm’s Travel Hospitality and Leisure (THL) industry group where he leads on aviation and travel. His audit and advisory clients over the past five years have included all of the top 10 airlines in the UK as well as many of the major airlines overseas. He is regularly consulted on aviation matters globally through the Deloitte network.
Pickett has extensive experience with private equity as well as in the IPO arena. He has also led a number of projects for the firm concerning the recently agreed merger between British Airways and Iberia and the establishment of the enlarged group’s new parent company IAG SA.
Pickett says: ‘’I am delighted to be taking over this role, at the very same time as our firm also sees a change in the leader of our UK business. Our very talented south teams are among the very best, and I will be engaging them in the opportunities for us all to be involved, collaboratively sharing ideas and shaping our future. We will be more market-led, continuing to focus on our consistent high-quality and personal service to clients. Drawing on our in-depth knowledge and our approach to clients and the market-place, we will be focusing on Industry and a specific group of market segments. I believe that this is the cornerstone for maintaining long-term trusted relationships as our clients’ primary advisers, while also bringing fresh direction and to challenge current thinking.
“This is also a particularly exciting year for the region. We at Deloitte are proud to have been involved with the London 2012 Games from the earliest stages of London’s bid to become host city, and to have been integral to the delivery team once London was selected. London 2012 will be a huge occasion for all those involved in travel, hospitality and leisure to stage a memorable Games, and to leave a lasting economic, sporting, social and environmental legacy long after the summer of 2012. We would encourage all businesses, larger players to smaller companies, to seize the opportunities which this fantastic event, genuinely once-in-a- lifetime, will provide; London 2012 is just around the corner – and will be a massive occasion for this region to showcase itself to the world.
“Our current community programme naturally has a London 2012 theme. We have several riders from our south offices in the 2011 Deloitte Ride across Britain. This is our annual corporate challenge which sees 600 people riding from John O’Groats to Lands End, over nine days, with the aim of raising £1 million for ParalympicsGB by 2013. Separately, as part of our community investment, the Reading office will be partnering through 2011 and 2012, with WheelPower, the charity which helps disabled athletes of all ages gain access to and enjoy a whole range of sports. The work of WheelPower is of particular importance to those individuals who have become disabled through accidents or illness and sport often plays a key role in their physical

but because it is one of the most profitable and successful offices and has produced some outstanding partners. The office is making an important contribution in many areas including the research and development tax group run by Samantha Vanags and the Technology Group led by Wendy Hart.
“The firm is in great shape – it posted a fantastic result in the last year which was close to a record. That is testament to the clients who have supported us and the talented people in this organisation. This year 250 graduates are being taken on at a time when other firms are slashing numbers significantly. We have had 8,000 applications

to join the firm this year and we have been voted the best place for anyone to do an internship in the UK.”
Oxford managing partner Wendy Hart added: “After 25 years we needed to find new premises and wanted a real shift in the quality and modernity
of our surroundings. It was a
great decision to come here. All the client facing teams are on one floor and it feels like a new beginning. This building properly reflects the growing national and international business which we now are.”
