A mega-lab programme allowing directors to profoundly explore a screenplay they are preparing to direct, while simultaneously developing voice and personal engagement with the essential work.
The lowdown The Erich Pommer Institut offers courses on a wide range of areas for industry professionals, among them media law, including copyright and licensing, and the media economy, including film financing and the trade in TV formats. It also covers the legal and economic aspects involved in media convergence. The courses are targeted at film and TV professionals, including producers, distributors, commissioning editors, broadcasters, bankers and entertainment lawyers. Forthcoming courses cover
European co-production, distribution strategies and Trans- Atlantic Partners, a course on international co-production from Europe, Canada and the US. The Institut was founded in
1998 as an independent, non- profit company in Babelsberg, Germany. Alumni include Junyoung Jang (February Films), Peter De Maegd (Caviar Films, Potemkino). Fees Vary depending on the course. A discount is available if there are two entrants from the same company and there is a smaller charge if entrants do not require accommodation. The UK’s National Film and Television School has also come on board as a partner for the first time for the 2011 programme. The programme covers all
aspects of the international film business from development through production, financing, worldwide distribution, marketing and exhibition to the latest digital developments. Seminars, workshops, studio visits, projects and events are hosted by very senior industry professionals — figures of the stature of Jeffrey Katzenberg, David Fincher, Richard Curtis and Tim Bevan. “Inside Pictures is a very
professional, mid-career development programme,” says Soda Pictures’ managing director Eve Gabereau, an alumnus of the initiative. “It is the only one that is available in the world.” Alumni include Teddy Leifer, documentary producer, Eve Gabereau, managing director, Soda Pictures, Hugo Grumbar, president, Icon Film Distribution. MEGA PLUS, SPAIN The lowdown Run by Spain’s Media Business School, MEGA Plus is a nine-month postgraduate degree course in audiovisual management which aims to give participants the required knowledge and business expertise to allow them to work in the industry at management level. Aimed at young producers
or recent graduates wishing to enter the audiovisual industry, the course content includes development, management, accountancy, production budgeting and scheduling, distribution, marketing and digital media. The MEGA Plus programme consists of 14 weeks residential training, a first three- month internship in a European production or distribution
