Morgan Horse Owners Receive National Awards


Three Morgan Horse owners, who


live in states where RMR is distributed, were honored at the American Morgan Horse Association Annual Convention, February 23-26, 2011, in Boston, Massachusetts.


Beverley Olson, of Sultan,


Washington, will be inducted into the AMHA Hall of Fame. Beverley jokes that the reason she


got her award is “longetivity.” She has owned Morgan Horses for 65 years – “since I was 14. “I’ve always been active with Morgans – showing, trail riding, writing for the Morgan Horse magazine, involved with the clubs, and my kids were in 4-H with Morgans. We have ten horses now, with some in training and showing, and I still show in the driving classes.” Beverley is especially proud of a recent Championship one of her horses earned in Gentleman’s Western


at the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show. She says that she is looking forward to going to Boston for her award, but wishes it were not in February so that she could visit some of the well-known Northeastern Morgan Horse farms.


Vincent and Kathy DeFazio, of Scandia Morgan Horse Farm, in St. Helens, Oregon, will be inducted into the AMHA Breeders Hall of Fame. The DeFazios have owned and bred Morgans since 1971, and now have third-generation sires and mares from their breeding line. They have remained steadfast at breeding versatile, classic bay horses that excel as trail horses while winning in the show ring. While living in different parts of the


country due to Vince’s career, Kathy was able to evaluate various Morgan bloodlines for type and personality, and to make qualified breeding decisions when purchasing their first broodmares
