Artists | SWITZERLAND Interview with Admir and Comenius

-As a child what did you want to become? (profession-wise)

Admir: Firefighter, but it turned out different... Comenius: Ski-teacher.

-In which town did you grow up? Admir: Zagreb, Croatia and Basel, Switzerland. Comenius: Basel, Switzerland.

-Do you think your background influences your current art/design? If so, what specific element in your background is most pervasive in influencing your current art/design style?

Admir: Yes. The past, the present and thoughts about the future (influence my style).

-What inspires you in the job of being an artist?

Comenius: Daily business: We watch things happening and then we react. There is nothing better than the reality - especially the reality of others.

-Do you have any other creative ambitions or dreams to which you aspire?

Admir: To get my driving license. Comenius would be finally proud of me. Comenius: Going on doing what we are doing without “leistungsabfall” (a bad performance).

-Which basic elements of creativity did your family teach you?

Admir: Patience. I still struggle with it. Comenius: None. My parents were working all the time, and since I always was an enfant terrible (terrible child), I never listened to what they said to me. Or even better, I just did the opposite. And now, I am an artist.

-How did you get the idea of making this type of art?

Admir: Ideas come and go. Most people have great ideas but don’t realize their ideas. Comenius: It just happened. Admir and I have the same quality of looking at things.

-Do you have a favorite artist yourself?

Admir: I am a fan of some. Comenius: Louise Bourgeois.

-Are you ever afraid you will run out of inspiration and creativity in your job? Admir: It is a challenge.

-What is the most difficult thing in your job?

Admir: There are many difficulties in this job. Comenius: Getting enough money for the upcoming projects. I also think the artist has to stay very far away from the art- circus: It’s not god to see the dealers and gallery owners/curators at work.

-What is the most fun part of your job?

Admir: There are a lot of fun parts to this job. Comenius: Testing the experiments that we want to show at the new shows.

-Do you expect your way of creating art to change in the future?

Admir: Yes. Comenius: Yes.

-Do you embrace the changes in the art industry regarding social media and technology influences?

Admir: Changes keep life interesting. Comenius: No. Since we change the media from project to project, it doesn’t interest me.

-Do you like art? Do you have any preferences for an artist? And/or for creators of artistic work?

Comenius: I don’t like art too much. Sure, there are a few things I like, but in general, I don’t have preferences. I like Damien the Moneymaker - not his works, but the way he is working.
