Imagine it is a horrible dreary, wet and windy morning and you really don’t want to work today - how do you get yourself motivated? Do you ever suffer from a lack of ideas or ‘artist’s block’? Of course! Happens occasionally. I haven’t missed many days of work over the years though. Usually I take a walk, have a coffee, and by then the artist’s block is starting to fade away. Letting a couple of hours pass without stressing out about it is important - when you work creatively it’s not like pushing an on- or-off button! If it’s just impossible to draw or paint or design and everything looks ugly I usually do the other work that one needs to do anyway; go through some papers, check emails, get back to potential clients, or researching stuff. There’s always something one can do, because being an artist isn’t just about holding a pen. Worst case scenario is to rent a DVD disappear into another world. Usually a good movie can inspire too - or at least relax you!
Do you have any favorite characters or scenarios that you love to draw? Girlycorns (girly unicorns, my own characters), rain- bows and cute lingerie. I bet Freud would have a lot to say about that!
What did you last dream about? It was a nightmare. Something with dark water, scary creatures and stress. Water and twisters are usually in my stress-dreams.
And lastly, if you weren’t an artist, what would you be? As wild as you like!
Here’s the thing. I’m not wild at all! I think maybe a nurse or something. Or a writer, if I ever made it. Or a nurse and a writer. I don’t know. But I usually end up trying to take care of everybody and my mum’s a nurse, so I guess it’s in my blood.
I love to write though, so maybe I’d explore that more. I used to sing too, but I’d bet more on the nurse or writer card.
