6 Maidstone Borough Council Audit committee – appointment of independent member
Maidstone Borough Council’s Audit Committee is looking for a new independent member. The committee has five borough councillors, all of whom have full voting rights. The Audit Committee usually meets at 6.30pm on a Monday evening. The role will require a commitment to attend six evening meetings a year. Training and support will be given.
The appointment is for a term of three years. You should live or work in the borough and you cannot be considered for appointment if you:
Are a councillor or council officer or have been so in the preceding five years prior to appointment;
Are a relative or close friend of an officer or councillor;
Are an employee or Member of another local authority;
Have any criminal convictions; Are an undischarged bankrupt;
Have any significant business dealings with the Council;
Have any connection with any political group.
Independent Members are entitled to claim a co-opted members’ allowance and some travel and subsistence expenses.
