WHEN Nigel and Susan Williams took over The Old Plantation pub at Bearsted, they vowed to transform it into a warm and cosy place renowned for its friendly service and delicious food. In just a few months, they have
done just that - breathing new life into the pub, which is fast gaining a reputation for its great atmosphere, home cooked meals and open log fire. The couple have been
astounded by the success of the pub over the Christmas and New Year festivities and the busy start they have had to 2011. “January has gone from
strength to strength,” said Nigel. “It’s wonderful at a time which can be very quiet.” Tucked away down a lane, the
15th century Grade II building has all the character and charm of a traditional country pub, yet is less than a minute’s drive away from the busy A20 Ashford Road.
With the help of top-notch
chef Darren and his team, plus a tempting new menu, Nigel and Susan are delighted to be welcoming many returning customers as well as new faces. Nigel said: “It’s great to see
people coming back who haven’t been here for 20 years.” The couple are keen to develop
the business still further and have plans to launch more new events. Curry nights are held every
Thursday. Quiz nights, live music, karaoke and live jam sessions are also proving very popular. The cosy restaurant area can
seat 24 with space for another dozen in an intimate upstairs room. Fresh local produce is used
