FAMILY DAY IN THE PARK A monthly gathering for LGBT parents and their children, the next Family Day in
the Park is Saturday, February 19, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. This event is dubbed, “Herstorytelling!” to acknowledge, honor and draw inspiration from stories of powerful African and African-American women’s contributions to our society. Come meet other LGBT families while celebrating “herstory” and have fun creating through story, dance and song! Family Day in the Park will be held at West Hollywood Park, located at 647 N.

SHANTI O.C.’S RAGIN’ CAJUN! Don’t miss the good eats and libations as Shanti O.C. presents Ragin’ Cajun
on Saturday, February 19. Hors d’oeuvres, libations, live entertainment and a silent auction are just some of the festive treats attendees will enjoy at Shanti OC’s Ragin’ Cajun event. It will feature a “Taste of Laguna” with savory samples from restaurants all over Laguna Beach and surrounding areas—as well as spirits from Barefoot Wine. The organization invites the entire community to join in the fun as it honors Orange County leaders and their great contributions to HIV/AIDS services at Shanti O.C. The Mary Wood Compassion Award will be presented to Julio Rodriguez, and the former ACTION Executive Director. Shanti Caring Hearts Award will be presented to former ACTION leaders and visionaries. There will also be a memorial tribute to Michael Cole. Sponsors of the event are Garden Grove Pharmacy, Laguna Drug, Ruckus Creative, South County Printing and Laura & Ben Bishin. Tickets are $45 per person. The Ragin’ Cajun event will take place at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Guild Hall, located at 428 Park Avenue in Laguna Beach. LUNAR NEW YEAR
CELEBRATION MEAL Join Asian/Pacific Gays and Friends (A/PGF) on Sunday, February 6, as the group
rings in the Lunar New Year at a “special” membership social that includes a “Lunar New Year” meal. This is a “membership benefit,” which means all members will eat for free. However, nonmembers are invited to attend the social for $15—what could be better? Nonmembers can join A/PGF that day at regular membership dues. The event is open to everyone and attendees are encouraged to bring their friends. RSVPs are necessary for everyone who attends to ensure there is enough for all.
On the Western calendar, the start of the New Year—The Year of the Rabbit— falls on Thursday, February 3, however A/PGF will be celebrating this event on Sunday, February 6, starting at 6:00 p.m. The A/PGF event will take place at West Hollywood’s Plummer Park Community Center, located at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood. LGB2NETWORK VALENTINE MIX & MATCH SPEED-DATING/
SINGLES MIXER Meet your new sweetheart at the LGB2Network Valentine Mix & Match
gay speed-dating event on Friday, February 10. This first-time event— sponsored by The Rage Monthly and benefitting The Center Long Beach—brings together LGBT singles throughout Southern California for a unique evening of mingling and meeting just in time for Valentine’s Day. Participants will be grouped according to age preferences and will have the opportunity to spend two minutes with of up to 25 potential mates each. Following the speed dates, participants are encouraged to mix and mingle with other guests and spend more time with daters who pique their interests. At the conclusion of the event, participants will turn in a list of their favorite dates and LGB2Network will help connect those to match up. One lucky pairing will receive a special prize package, including a romantic Valentine’s dinner for two at Ambrosia Café. The cost to participate in the Valentine Mix & Match event is $15 per person and includes one complimentary drink upon entry.
