savings could reach up to 700 pounds, equal to the weight of five to eight students. Te seat also addresses a common concern for school districts:

loss of seating capacity with three-point belts. As development of the seat progressed, C.E. White designed the strength and flex features of the frame to accommodate three full-sized students in a 39-inch seat, the toughest configuration to meet specifica- tions. By limiting each student to only 13 inches of seat space, it’s unlikely that three large students will readily occupy a seat.

Conversely, three middle school students (aged 10 to 14) could readily fit. It also provides for a full-sized student to occupy any seat location with a properly fitted shoulder strap. A middle seat location limited to students aged 10 and under restricts the usage for anyone over grade school age. Previously, bus seating capacity was also reduced due to the depth of the seat or the seat’s foot- print in a bus. Te added depth typically reduced the number of rows of seats that could be placed in a bus compared to standard seats. A 72-student capacity bus was reduced to a 66-student capacity. In some cases this required extra buses for routes or additional buses to be purchased. C.E. White’s new Quasi-Static seat square or footprint is the same size as standard seats. Tis readily permits the exchange of seats with three-point belts with a standard seat configuration and no loss of capacity. ■
