Property Property News The Offham
JUST on the edge of the popular village of East Malling is a rare opportunity to live in a rural location with beautiful surrounding countryside and a choice of bespoke designed homes. Oast Court Farm is a development of
just eight homes ranging from the renovation of an existing farm house to new 4- and 5-bedroom homes and an oast house, all with large gardens. This Hillreed development is
approached by its own private drive to a gated entrance and comes complete with its own tennis court for the private use of residents. The Nettlestead is a four-bedroom
house forming part of an oast complex and is priced at £495,000. At the top of the range is The Offham,
a five-bedroom attached oast house, priced at £900,000. It has a circular living room with fireplace and wood burning stove, high specification kitchen, family room, study and cloakroom.
A LEADING housebuilder has shown its commitment to the future of the housing
industry in the south east of England by recruiting five new apprentices. They include carpenter Adam Prebble
and his 16-year-old twin brother Glen, an electrician, from Snodland, and electrician Richard Perrin, 23 from Maidstone, who are all based at Redrow’s Sutton Woods development in Maidstone. The 48 new apprentices taken on this
year across Redrow’s UK-wide operation is more than double those recruited in 2008 and 2009 combined. Redrow training manager, Richard
Beadsmoore said: “We strongly believe that in order for the industry to go from strength to strength we must commit resources to encouraging young people to take up skilled careers in all aspects of construction, including bricklaying, plumbing and carpentry. “Much skilled labour has been lost
during the economic downturn so it is absolutely essential that we bring in new life blood.”
GOLDING Homes – formerly Maidstone Housing Trust - has submitted a planning application to build 11 bungalows at Bethersden Court in Senacre. The development of one- and two-
bedroom homes are designed for people with mobility issues and will be fully accessible. The design also meets the ‘Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4’, incorporating insulation, heating and energy saving design features which will have a low impact on the environment and reduce residents' energy bills. The site is close to local shops and amenities and has excellent public transport to the town centre. At a public consultation in May local
residents broadly welcomed the plans for the site, particularly praising the security aspects and internal walkway of the plan. A two-storey block of flats for older
people previously stood on the development site, which is owned by Golding Homes. The block was demolished as the accommodation was no longer fit-for purpose. It is felt this new bungalow development is suitable for the area and complementary to existing homes on the site.
