Facing a Parking Shortage? Consider a
Valet/Shuttle System Walker Parking Consultants, which helped Salem (OR)
Hospital design a valet/shuttle system, reports that more than 70% of its visitors and patients use the service.Walker also said letters in the local newspaper and sent to the hospital administration thanked the hospital for providing the service and complimenting the service staff on their friendliness and efficiency. In fact, as a result of the valet/shuttle parking program’s popu-
larity, Salem Hospital was even able to increase its available spaces for those choosing self-parking. Here are some reasons you might be considering valet/shuttle
services as an alternative to additional lots or a garage: •The only site available for parking is too far away. •You can’t afford to build a new parking structure. •You need a temporary solution during a construction or expan-
sion cycle. Now, who is going to run the show? Are you going to do it in-
house, or do you need a qualified valet/shuttle parking operator? In either case,Walker says, you’ll need to set service standards, opera- tional procedures and policies, set up training programs, plan sig- nage and drop-off areas, and plan an awareness campaign.
